This series consists of two types of forms, many of which have been culled from files that have been destroyed in the class 3 (Non-British European) class.
The Form 47 is "Application For Permit to Enter Australia" and contains personal information as follows:
Name & address
Nationality
Where born and when
Marital status
Place of residence
Occupation
Amount of money being transferred
Languages spoken
Details of accompanying family (if any)
The forms are white in the early years but change to yellow in the 1940's. Sometimes there will be photographs attached.
The Form 47A "Medical Examination (For Persons Seeking Permanent Admission to Australia) Declaration by Intending Migrant" is intended as an attachment to the Form 47. However not all applicants for permits have a medical declaration attached.
These Forms 47A contain personal medical details of a general nature - heart, blood pressure, lungs etc and are signed both by the intending migrant and a medical practitioner in the country of application.
The items in consignment A997/2 have been converted, by Australian Archives from a previously non-accession series (CP 532/2) and have been arranged alphabetically in folders. The folders are arranged in chronological order. However because of the sheer volume of material, they could not be arranged in lexicographical order within a folder. This means that a search for a particular person must cover all items in a folder. It was not always clear what a persons surname was, and may have been filed under their first name. Therefore where there is some ambiguity, a search will also need to cover the folder containing the first letter of that persons first name.
