This series consists of personal index cards relating to correspondence received by CA 789, Collector of Customs, Melbourne [Victoria] from importers of goods. The cards are divided into five columns titled 'Reg[istration].no', 'Date of Receipt', 'From whom received' and 'Subject'. As the registration number isn't a consecutive number is appears as if it refers to the file number the correspondence was placed on. Unfortunately there is no firm evidence to which correspondence file series these cards relate but given the date range and lack of any alphabetical prefix on the cards, it can be assumed that CRS B13 is the controlled series. Cards are held alphabetically by name of the company or persons who sent the correspondence. Each company or person has an individual card to record ongoing inwards correspondence with the agency. The cards are divided into alphabetical arrangement by coloured tabs giving the first two letters of the company or person. The blue tabs relate to 'miscellaneous' entries and the yellow tabs relate to 'personal' entries within the alphabetical arrangement. The difference between the two is not clear.
