At the time when these registers were in use the Office of the Collector of Customs, Victoria, came under the Department of Trade and Customs (CA 10).
The Correspondence, Records and Typing section of Customs and Excise, Office of the Collector of Customs, Victoria, created these registers. The series consists of three 'Goliath Thong' Binders 14" x 15", each for a different year, volume 1 (1951), volume 2 (1952), volume 3 (1953). Each volume consists of printed pages divided into columns listing the correspondence's 'registered number', related subject 'card heading', 'other correspondence', and a record of file 'movements'. Where applicable a 'D' is written in red pen indicating that the file has been destroyed. In some cases, annotations relating to top-numbering and related files have also been made. The correspondence file series to which these registers relate is Commonwealth Record Series (CRS) B13.
