FUNCTION AND CONTENT
This series consists of two sets, each of three brown visidex folders with blue spine labels titled 'Third Gorton Ministry Cabinet Decisions', together with the volume number and range of decision numbers. The second set was held in the Cabinet room at Parliament House and is labelled 'House Set' and has no volume numbers. The individual volume range varies between sets.
Decisions are arranged in a single number sequence, one or more pages per decision as necessary. A suffix was added to the decision number to distinguish between the three decision making bodies operative at the time. The (full)Ministry was the largest body, comprising all Ministers of the Crown (formally appointed by the Governor-General), and its decisions bear an 'M' suffix. An inner Cabinet of senior ministers, with occasional co-options, comprised the second body and no suffix was used to distinguish its decisions. The third body comprised committees of Cabinet: groups of ministers who dealt with matters affecting their portfolios. A common abbreviation for each of the committees is added to the decision number to identify their particular decisions, eg W - Works Committee.
