This series consists of Queensland Literary Copyright Files from 1887 to 1907.
The 347 items listed for this series consist of the registration forms, and in most cases the exhibits, corresponding to those registered in Series BP5/10, and indexed in Series BP5/11. The series is arranged in single number order from 1-349 with some gaps. Most items also have stamped certificates affirming receipt of copies deposited with the Parliamentary Library and the Queensland Museum Library. A very few also have accompanying correspondence.
The registration forms provide details of title; name of publisher and time and place of publication; name and place of abode of the proprietor of copyright, first publication details, and date of application. There are no author details provided, except where specifically noted, or where the author is the holder of the copyright and/or also the publisher. Information on the original medium of the work is also scant and likely not to specify lithograph, engraving etc.
Each item has a large crayon number on it, and it is by these numbers that the collection is arranged - and catalogued in the Register and Index series as well. However many items also bear an oval stamp engraved 'Registrar of Patents Queensland' around the outside with a date and number in the centre. This seems to indicate that the material held in this series is only a portion of the total registered in Queensland. In the examples below the stamped numbers are given last in square brackets. This number is provided here largely for illustrative purposes, as the material in the series is arranged as indicated in the right hand column. Nonetheless, the registration number may be useful for researchers to confirm they have located copyright material in collections of other institutions such as the Queensland Art Gallery and the State Library of Queensland.
As well as a large collection of music scores, the series contains one or two theatrical pieces (eg 61); several maps (eg 251); catalogues and trade journals for household goods (eg 325), stationery (eg 255), and light engineering equipment (eg 288); advertisements (a whole set from 244 - 250); half yearly weather forecasts (eg 345); newspapers (eg 315); and many travellers guides (eg 305). There are also several school text books such as the Pupil?s Manual of Greek Roots, Figures of Speech &c., for Sixth Class (A1716, 326).
