CREATION
The Energy Research and Development Corporation (ERDC) was established as a statutory body under the Primary Industries and Energy Research and Development (PIERD) Act 1989. The functions of the ERDC were previously undertaken by the National Energy Research and Development and Demonstration Program within the Department of Primary Industries and Energy.
FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES
Under the PIERD Act the following functions are identified:
.Investigation and evaluation of the requirements for energy research
and development and on the basis of such evaluation
.prepare a research and development plan and review and revise the
plan
.prepare an annual operational plan
.coordinate or fund the carrying out of research and development
activities that are consistent with the operational plan
.monitor evaluate and report to the Parliament, the Minister and its
representative organisations on research and development activities
that are co-ordinated or funded, wholly or partly by the Corporation
.facilitate the dissemination, adoption and commercialisation of the
results of energy research and development as part of its External
Relations and Energy Technology Information Programs.
ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE
The ERDC reports directly to the Minister for Resources and Energy within the portfolio of Primary Industries and Energy.
