The Institute of Minerals, Energy and Construction (IMEC) is one of six Institutes which constitute CSIRO. It was formed at the end of 1987 following on the work of the former Institute of Energy and Earth Resources.
IMEC aims to play a major contributing role in the development of sustainable and competetive minerals, energy and construction in Australia and in the creation of a better living and working environment for all Australians.
The Institute's main customers comprise mining and mineral processing companies; coal, oil and gas producers and users; construction and civil and geotechnical engineering companies, authorities and consultants. Also State and Federal agencies regulating, delivering or planning any of the commodities, services or products which the other customers of the Institute produce.
