The Australian Wool Realisation Commission Act 1991 No. 107 of 1991 repealed the Wool Marketing Act of 1987 and made provision for the continuing existence of the Australian Wool Corporation [CA 2004], existing under that Act, under a new name and with new functions and for related purposes. The functions of the Wool Realisation Commission included:
Take-over the borrowings of $2.7 billion raised for the former Reserve Price Scheme and repay the debt over a maximum 7 years.
Manage and sell the 4.7 million bale stockpile acquired under the Reserve Price Scheme, the property and other non wool assets. Complete payments under the Wool Supplementary Payments Scheme for 1990-1991.
Although the legistlation specified that the agency would cease operation on repayment of the debt and disposal of the wool stockpile, the AWRC was replaced by Wool International in 1993.
