The aims of the division are, through research and development, to increase efficiency and effectiveness in the building and construction sector of the economy; to enhance the potential standard of accommodation in Australia for living, work and leisure, and to contribute to urban development and improved environment.
Research [I] was accorded divisional status in 1950 and then
amalgamated with the Division of Forest Products in 1971, forming this agency.
The Division of Forest Products was transferred to form part of the Divison of Forestry and Forest Products at the end of 1987. The remainder combined with the Division of Energy Technology (Vic) to form the Division of Construction and Engineering which commenced operations from January 1 1988.
CSIRO Division of Building, Construction and Engineering commenced operation on July 1 1988. It's role to provide leading edge research, consulting and testing services to support, advance, and innovate the construction, engineering, ultilities and transport industries.
