The Division of Animal Health directed its main research effort towards alleviating the major disease problems of the grazing sheep and cattle industries, with emphasis on the immunological approach. Research was also conducted into pig and poultry diseases.
The location at Glebe was in the grounds of the University of Sydney and known as the F D McMaster Animal Health Laboratory and informally as the McMaster Laboratory. In December 1944 the Division moved to Prospect where it was collocated with the Division of Animal Production.
As of 1 July 1995, the research and support staff of the Division of Animal Health located at Prospect (including the McMaster Laboratory) were officially merged into the research programs of the Division of Animal Production.
Laboratory designations for the merged programs at Prospect became the McMaster Laboratory, Division of Animal Production and Ian Clunies Ross Laboratory, Division of Animal Production.
