The Australian Wool Realisation Commission Act 1991, No. 107 of 1991 repealed the Wool Marketing Act of 1987 and made provision for the continuing existence of the Australian Wool Corporation [CA 2004], existing under that Act, under a new name and with new functions and for related purposes. Three new independent agencies were created to replace the AWC: Australian Wool Realisation Commission [CA 7371], Australian Wool Corporation II [CA 7370] and the Wool Research and Development Corporation which was facilitated by Primary Industries and Energy Research and Development Amendment Act 1991, No. 109 of 1991. Functions of this agency included:
Planning and implementing an effective wool research and development program.
Allocating priorities to, and funding wool research projects. Encouraging the application and commercialisation of research results. Establishing direct links and negotiating suitable arrangements for research and development with the International Wool Secretariat.
