The Division of Energy Chemistry was incorporated into the CSIRO from the Australian Atomic Energy Commission in 1981. The Division was split at the end of 1987; part being combined with the Division of Fossil Fuels to form the Division of Coal Technology (responsible for coal preparation, storage and transport), and the remainder renamed Division of Fuel Technology.
