The Australian Meat Research Committee was reconstituted as the Australian Meat Research Committee in March 1966 under the Meat Research Act No. 75 of 1965, assented to on 25 November 1965. The committee consisted of a chairman; 7 persons to represent the Australian Meat producers; one person to represent the Australian Agricultural Council; one person to represent the C.S.I.R.O.; one person to represent such universities as engage in research in matters affecting the meat industry; and one person to represent the Department of Primary Industry.
The Committee's functions were: "encouraging the export from Australia of meat and other products of the slaughter of cattle, sheep and lambs; and of encouraging the raising of cattle, sheep and lambs in the Territories forming part of the Commonwealth, by means of:
a) Scientific, economic and technical research in connection with
matters related either directly or indirectly to those purposes.
b) The training of persons for the purposes of any such
research.
c) The dissemination of information and advice in connection with
scientific, economic or technical matters related either directly
or indirectly to those purposes.
d) The publication of reports, periodicals, books and papers in
connection with scientific, economic or technical matters related
either directly or indirectly to those purposes.
The Committee was abolished on 7 May 1985 and its functions were taken over by the Australian Meat and Livestock Research and
