The Chiefs of Staff include the Chief of the Naval Staff, the Chief of General Staff (representing the Australian Army), and the Chief of Air Staff (their Committee was established in 1939). This series includes copies of the monthly reports of the Chief of the Naval Staff, and the Chief of Air Staff's monthly bulletins of development. To February 1952 the latter were known as the report on activities of the Air Force. The series covers the years 1951 to 1954 and 1956 only, and appears to have been originally held in the Department of Defence Secretariat where it was known under the present title. The whereabouts of the 1955 reports has not been established.
The reports are essentially summaries of HMA Ships operations, and RAAF operations, equipment and personnel for each reporting period. They cover Korea, Malaya, Japan and Australia. Some additional papers (item [12]) relate to meetings of the Transfer of Defence Departments to Canberra Sub-Committee on Amenities, February to March 1955.Quantity in agency custody
