Function and Provenance
Series AWM158 is a collection of cards recording details of donations of material to the Australian War Memorial.
Between 1925 and 1981, the receipt of private records into the Australian War Memorial's collection was recorded in the AWM Library's donated records lists (1-3 DRL) accession system (AWM154 - AWM156). Between 1982 and 1984, accessions of private records were registered in a separate Private Records Accession Register (AWM157). For privacy reasons, details of the respective donors of these records were recorded on separate index cards held under this Series AWM158.
The Private Records Accession Register ceased being used at the end of 1984, with accession registration shifting to a variety of electronic systems.
The donations referenced on these cards are mainly from, or relate to, the 1914-18, 1939-45 and Vietnam Wars, but there is also limited material relating to the pre-Federation War in South Africa, and BCOF and Korea.
The cards were created by Memorial staff.
