This series commenced with the establishment of the Defence
Administrative Office on the 15 September 1972 and was concluded with the withdrawal of the Australian element of ANZUK Force and the corresponding disestablishment of the Defence Administrative Office on 1 January 1975.
The objectives in establishing the Defence Administrative Office were:
(a) by appropriate delegations to enable effective civilian administrative advice and support to be given with minimum reference to national capitals, and
(b) to ensure common policies by bringing together control of all those civilian support services which have general application to the services.
The role of the Defence Administrative Office was to determine policy and procedures for administrative matters dealt with by the Department of Defence and to provide civil administration support to the force.
The Defence Administrative Office was organised into three sections:
Finance - General
Civil Employment and
Administration.
