This series consists of general correspondence files of the Press Division of the Department of Information.
 
The series was transferred to the ACT Region from NSW Region in 1975, having been transferred there from the Australian War Memorial in 1953. (See File RWS 23/1/2).
 
The files mainly relate to the supply of photographs to various authorities and newspapers; the functions of the division which included the photographic coverage of all major newsworthy events and the censorship of the photographs.
 
The files were controlled by a multiple number system, however some files were not numbered and a single number system with 'M' [Miscellaneous] prefix was imposed.
