Summary heading
PP50/5
Inward aircraft passenger cards, alphabetical series
Function and purpose
This series
comprises cards completed by passengers of aircraft arriving in Western Australia
showing: - aircraft registration; port of arrival; age; condition; occupation;
industry; country of last permanent residence; intended address in Australia;
purpose of visit; length of stay.
Using the series
The series
has been described at box level. The cards themselves are not registered as
individual items, however their two containers are. The alphabetical arrangement is by family
name. As the cards are hand written, some of the names are hard to distinguish
and it is not clear which is the family name. Therefore, users should check
under all names if the initial search is not successful.
Physical characteristics
The cards
are 150 mm high and 100 mm wide. The cards are divided into a section for the
aircraft registration, port of arrival and date of arrival and another section
for personal details and point of embarkation.
System of arrangement and control
The cards
are maintained in alphabetical order. Names beginning with MacXXX
or McXXX are assumed to be spelt as Mac and sorting
was done on the fourth letter, eg MacDonald comes
before McIver. The Macs/Mcs are sorted into a block
at the appropriate alpha place, eg Maas,
Mabury, McAdam, MacVeigh, Madden and so on.
Relationships with other records
This series
forms part of a large group of records that document the movement of people
into and out of Western Australia comprising incoming and outgoing passenger
lists, nominal rolls, crew lists and passenger cards. See series links for
details.
