rolls (aircraft), alphabetical series
Function and purpose
This series comprises alphabetical index cards, for
aircraft, showing details of arrival dates and associated file numbers for crew
lists, boarding reports and nominal rolls.
The series commenced c.1951 and shows details of file
numbers for three different registration systems, viz. annual single number
with class number infix, 1951-1954; multiple number, by 1952-1954; and annual
single number with 'W' prefix, 1955 and continuing (K47). The cards are held
alphabetically in flight number order within airline company.
Private and military aircraft arrivals are also included.
The series ceased in 1982 when computer applications were
introduced.
Relationships with other records
This series is part of a group of control records used by
the agency as part of its recordkeeping system until the introduction of an
electronic recordkeeping system in 1982. The agency allocated blocks of file
numbers to different functions and maintained control records for these blocks
separately. Thus, several other CRS and accession series also comprise control
records for the agency’s various file types. See series links for details.
