This series consists of duplicate sets of prints that were presented to VIP official visitors to Australia, or Australian VIP visits abroad.
The album covers vary in material from plastic to high quality leather, the colours also vary in shades of brown, green, white/cream, one is lilac coloured brocade. They also vary in shape and size and may have a spine, some decoration or the name of the visitor and date may be imprinted on the cover.
Inside the cover is generally a label with the details of the visit covered i.e. name of visitor and dates.The condition of some of these labels has been drawn to the attention of the Conservation Section of the Australian Archives.
The album covers are not necessarily the same as the originals. Some have a set of captions. These are large format prints - generally 10" x 8" - and are a sample of the type of photographic record presented to official visitors by the agency.
The item number quoted in the first consignment is the same as used in the A8281 (Contact print albums for VIP visits and other important occasions) series, and a detailed photographic coverage will be found in the albums in that series. The letters used for the items in the second consignment will be superimposed because there is no corresponding number in the A8281 series.
After the transfer of these two consignments it is unlikely there will be further transfers in this series.
