This series consists of one item - a register designed to record the distribution of Council of Defence documents created between 1946 and 1950. It is a black 'plastic' covered volume, with four screws binding it, 34 x 24 x 2cm in size. The pages inside are protected at the first and last page by orange cardboard.
The volume itself actually contains four separate registers which document similar information.
(1) a register of agenda, listing agendum number, date of publication, subject title, date of distribution to members of council and date considered by council. This section lists all agenda papers produced by the council between 1946 and 1949.
(2) a detailed register of agenda, documenting the distribution of each agendum paper to each council member. There is a separate entry for each agendum paper, detailing its number, subject, the date of meeting of council at which it was considered and the minute number by which it was noted at the meeting. Then, running down the page, each copy number is listed, showing to whom each copy was issued and dates of issue, return and destruction (which is verified by an initial). This section details the distribution of each agendum paper numbered from 1/1946 to 5/1950.
(3) a register of documents circulated to members of the Council of Defence, listing for each document the date received, subject and date circulated. Entries for this section date between 6 Feb 1946 and 23 Jun 1947.
(4) a register of issues and returns for Council of Defence documents, separated into three sections. Entries date between 7 Mar 1946 and 13 Sep 1946, and provide similar detail to the register entries in (2) above.
At the very end of the volume are three sheets of paper apparently documenting the distribution of agenda papers for the last meeting of the Council of Defence [IV] in July 1950.
