This series consisted of sixteen wooden boxes with rear hinged lids, each bearing the general identification 'Gorton/McMahon' and the box number.  The first fifteen boxes bore the letter range of their contents, and the last was labelled 'Departments, Ministers, Premiers'.

On transfer to Archives in November 1997, the buff coloured index cards were put into four acid free Archives card boxes.

Index tabs are used throughout. Each card shows the subject as the heading, followed below by the date, subject (abstract of matter under consideration) and the CO file number. There is no reference to submission or decision numbers.
