Custodial history
The Northern Territory was
administered by the South Australian Government from the 1860s until 1911, when
it was transferred to the Commonwealth. At this time, records that resulted
from that period of administration, including the records in this series, were
also transferred to the Commonwealth. In 1927, following a request from the
South Australian Public Library, most of the records of this series were
returned to the Library in Adelaide.
These records are now held by the State Records of South Australia. The records
retained by the National Archives of Australia were those still required by the
Commonwealth for administrative purposes at this time.
