Noel Crichton-Browne was elected to the Senate in 1980 (term began 1 July 1981) as a Senator for Western Australia representing the Liberal Party. Within the Liberal Party he held positions as Member, Liberal Party State Council from 1970; Senior Vice-President, Liberal Party(Perth Div.) 1972-74; Senior Vice-President, Liberal Party (W.A.) 1973-75; President, Liberal Party (Stirling Div.) 1974-75;Member, Liberal Party State Executive (W.A.) 1974-81; Member, Liberal Party Federal Executive 1975-79 and Federal Council 1975-80; and State President, Liberal Party (W.A.) 1975-79.
 
Senator Crichton-Browne's Parliamentary Service was extended when he was elected to the Senate in 1983, 1984, 1987, 1990 and 1993. He became an Independent Liberal from 9 September 1995 until his retirement on 30 June 1996. 

His Parliamentary Appointments included the Representative on the Council of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies from 18 September 1986 to 18 September 1989.
