Malcolm Arthur Colston was born in Brisbane on 5 April 1938. He has obtained degrees as a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, Doctor of Philosophy and Associate in Education.
Before entering Federal Parliament, Colston worked as a teacher, research officer and psychological consultant. He is a member of the Australian Psychological Society. Senator Colston was also a member of the Army Reserve from 1964-1979 and held the rank of Major from 1970-1979.
Senator Colston was elected to the Senate for Queensland in 1975 and has held the Parliamentry position of Temporary Chairman of Committees since the 22nd August 1978. He has served on numerous Senate and Joint committees (see related agencies field), and has been both a member and leader of many Australian parliamentary delegations and conferences during his term as Senator.
