Alan Joseph Missen was born at Kew, Victoria on 22 July 1925. Before entering Federal Parliament, Mr Missen worked as a Barrister and Solicitor, and served as a Commissioner on the Supreme Court. He was elected to the Senate in May 1974 and re-elected in 1975, 1977, 1983 and 1984. As a Senator, he served both as a member and Chairperson of various Committees.
In January 1978 he participated as a member on the Parliamentary Delegation to Japan and China. He died on 30 March 1986.
