Abolition
The Department was abolished on 26 November 2001
following the portfolio undergoing a change of name after the transfer of the
principle matter, ‘Youth affairs’ to the Department of Family and Community
Services, and the addition of three new matters to its responsibility namely, ‘Science
policy’, and the ‘Radioactive waste management’, transferred from the abolished
Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources, and the new matter, ‘Promotion
and collaborative research in science and technology’.
