The Survey Branch was formed from the Lands and Survey Branch of the Department of the Interior [II] in 1963. Surveying had previously been amalgamated with other functions under the Property and Survey Branch (by 1943-1951), the ACT. Development and Planning Branch (1951-1958) and the Lands and Survey Branch (1958-1963), all branches of the Department of the Interior [II]. The Survey Branch passed to the Department of Services and Property, Central Office, following the abolition of the Department of the Interior [II] in 1972.
The function of Survey Branch was to undertake land, engineering and topographical surveys throughout Australia for Commonwealth Government purposes. It was composed of three sections:
(1) ACT Operations section,
(2) Technical Services section,
(3) Interstate Operations section.
By April 1974, the Survey Branch, Department of Services and Property was re-designated the Survey Division, Department of Services and Property, according to references in the Australian Government Gazette.Historical agency address
