The Network Engineering Region was responsible for developing the trunk switching network, the arterial trunk network and special networks for all South Australia and Northern Territory areas and also local networks and subscribers networks in South Australia. 

Following a reorganisation of Telecom in South Australia in 1992 the Resource Unit was incorporated into the Network Construction Group of Telecom Australia's State Office with a consequent name change.
