The Australian High Commission was established in 1974 with the appointed High Commissioner resident in Ottawa.
In 1975, the High Commissioner was accredited with non-resident status for Barbados inheriting this function from the Canadian High Commissioner. This ceased in 1994 when the newly-appointed High Commissioner to Barbados took up residence in Bridgetown.
