Victorian Regional Administrative functions were previously
undertaken by the CSIRO's Head office situated in Melbourne. In 1962 the function of administering the CSIRO Divisions and
Sections in Victoria was passed to a Regional Administration with A.P. Patterson, F.A.S.A., as Regional Administrative Officer (Melbourne).
The Regional Administrative Office provides administrative services and support in Victoria for the Divisions of Animal Health, Applied Geomechanics, Mineral Chemistry, Mineral Engineering, Applied Organic Chemistry, Building Research, Chemical Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Protein Chemistry, Textile Industry, Atmospheric Physics, Chemical Physics, Materials Science and the Australian Numerical Meteorological Research Centre.
The Regional Administration handles the Divisions' accounting, supply and personal needs. It is divided into two major sections - Personnel, and Account and Supply.
The current Regional Administrative Officer is W.C. Hosking.
In 1989 as a result of policy changes and cuts in funding the Regional Administrative Office Melbourne was abolished. Some records were transferred to CSIRO Central Office and others were
transferred into Archive's custody. An Administrative Services Unit was formed, located at Bayview Avenue, Clayton as from 22/02/1989. The unit is responsible for the following functions:
