The Australian Mission in Bangkok commenced with the appointment of Colonel A.J. Eastman as Political Representative to Thailand on 16 December, 1945. From February to April, 1946, F.K. Officer, OBE (later Sir Keith) was Special Envoy to the post.
The mission was upgraded to the status of Consulate-General on 16 September, 1946. Colonel Eastman became first Consul-General and remained in the post until October, 1949.
