On 1 July 1975, the Australian Telecommunications Commission was established by Commonwealth legislation and commenced operations under interim legislation. The Telecommunications Commission started trading on this date as 'Telecom Australia' and is responsible for the following services:
1 Internal telephone services within Australia
2 Telex services and data transmission services
3 Bearer transmission equipment for television relay and
translator stations
4 National radio transmitters
From 1 July 1995 the domestic trading name was changed to Telstra Corporation Limited, the legal and overseas trading name of the corporation since 1993.
