The Australian Development Assistance Agency commenced operations in Hobart on the 1st of July 1975. Prior to this date, ADAA functions were carried out by the Department of Education, Branch Office, Tasmania (CA 1546). The Hobart branch of the agency has the task of administering the various overseas training awards, in addition to the aid programmes for developing countries. It has had its independent record keeping system, as distinct from the records of the Education Branch Office since the 1st of July 1975.
TheAustralian Development Assistance Agency was formally abolished with the proclamation of the Australian Development Assistance Agency (Repeal) Act 1977.1 The Agency was replaced by a Bureau established within the Department of Foreign Affairs.
At the regional level the Office of the Australian Development Assistance Agency, Tasmania was replaced by the Australian Development Assistance Bureau, Regional Office, Tasmania (CA 2810).
