Thehe Prime Minister announced the appointment of the Committee on 17 February 1963. Some of the terms of reference of the Committee of Economic Enquiry were investigations of:
(a) the trends in population, as a whole, in the workforce;
(b) the economic availability of known physical resources; and
(c) the growth of domestic savings and investment.
The Prime Minister stated that the Committee would comprise:
Chairman: Dr James Vernon CBE
Vice-chairman: Professor John Crawford CBE
Members: Professor P H Karmel, D G Molesworth CBE and KB Myer DSC.
The Committee held its first formal meeting on 7 March 1963. It invited and received written submissions from Commonwealth departments and authorities. The Committee held 29 formal meetings.
It produced a two volume report at the conclusion of its Enquiry.
