This series consists of correspondence files documenting policy, administration and operational aspects of the Immigration function, as well as personal case files of immigrants.
Block allocation of numbers, at the beginning of each year divides each annual set of files into two separate parts, as tabulated on the following sheet.
The block of numbers set aside for personal case files only, is rarely completely utilised, this creating artificial gaps in the series. Each case file (1 per person) documents applications to visit and extensions to these applications, applications to immigrate, copies of medical and financial reports, applications to sponsor immigration of other family members, copies of passports, birth and marriage certificates and applications for naturalisation/citizenship. Since May 1985, citizenship papers have not been kept on these files, but have been maintained as a separate series.
The second set of files are a mixture of operational and housekeeping files. File subjects include: boarding lists, citizenship application lists, deportation and statistics, schedules of permission to leave foreign countries etc.
