The Commonwealth Investigation Service, New South Wales was established on 31 August 1946 from the renamed Investigation Branch (CA 904) of the Attorney-General's Department.
On 21 April 1960, with the commencement of the Commonwealth Police Act of 1957 the Service became the Commonwealth Police Force.
