Description of series:
The majority of the files pertain to aliens interned during the 1939/45 War. (Individual case files, lists of aliens interned etc.) Included in the remainder are files relating to:- Deportations, subversive activities, various organisations and sects, instructions and circulars.
History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
"Subsequent to transfer-" Initially the records were accessioned as BT498. Early in March 1965, Mr.McGarrigle, Registrar for Attorney General's visited the repository and screened and culled the records under the authority of a new Disposal Schedule recently approved. Records for retention were re-accessioned as BP242/1, and the worthless records, 132 c.ft., destroyed.
Correspondence files (NCCR series) in BP129/1 concerning POW and internees graves and cemeteries 1939-1945 [64/1/665] and various war criminal compounds at Rabaul [174/1/101], Manus Island [174/1/202, 174/1/292], Gaythorne [174/5/532] plus Chinese captured in New Guinea 1944-1946 [255/2/617] relate to this series.
