- The First Curtin Ministry held term from 7 October 1941 to 21 September 1943.
- The Second Curtin Ministry held term from 21 September 1943 to 6 July 1945.
- The Forde Ministry held term from 6 July to 13 July 1945. Forde had been Curtin's deputy and become Prime Minister at Curtin's death.
- Forde lost a leadership battle to Ben Chifley on 12 July 1945.
- The First Chifley Ministry held term from 13 July 1945 to 1 November 1946.
- The Second Chifley Ministry held term from 1 November 1946 to 19 December 1949.
This series contains Cabinet minutes and agenda together with associated submissions, reports, correspondence and other related appendices. An agendum number has been allocated from the subject cards (CRS A2701) for each separate matter or proposal before Cabinet; subsequent submissions on the same subject retain this agendum number but are given a letter suffix (A, B, C, D, etc.).
Originally the items were housed in visidex folders. For preservation reasons, each individual item has been re-packaged and placed in an archival folder by the Archives. Each item pertains to a particular subject discussed by Cabinet, including minutes, agenda, submissions and associated material. The material relating to each subject is arranged by item number in sequence.
Finding aids
Many of the individual agenda have been digitized and can be viewed as an attachment to the RecordSearch item entry.
In 2017, the microfilm copy of the entire series was digitized and uploaded to National Archives of Australia RecordSearch database. The digital image can be viewed from the link provided at the following RecordSearch item entries:
