Series note

This series consists of Western Australian Literary Copyright Files from 1897 to 1907.

This series follows series A1722, and is arranged by single number ranging from 2 - 395 (with gaps). It contains the registration forms Form B Form of requiring Entry of Proprietorship and in most cases the exhibits, for items registered in Series K17 Volume II. Most items also include a printed form from the Victoria Public Library, later the Public Library of Western Australia, certifying receipt of a copy of the work. It should be noted that the receipt numbers on these forms do not correspond to the registered numbers of the items.

Many of the registration forms are hand done copies of the printed form, and all are handwritten. They show the title; date and place of first publication; publisher?s name; and name and place of abode of proprietor of copyright.

The series contains a large number of race guides and betting cards for major fixtures at Kalgoorlie, Boulder, Belmont Park and the WA Turf Club, some for cycle races, yachting annuals and many maps and plans. However, its outstanding feature is perhaps the amount of music included, much of it in handwritten manuscript form.

During a large project undertaken by A & D of the Copyright material, a listing of all items was prepared. It was discovered that the Western Australian Regional Office held at K17/2 the 'Register of Copyrights - Literary, dramatic and musical productions, lectures, etc' [with index]. A copy of this register was obtained and is held with the listing.
