History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
Prior to transfer: This set was commenced in June 1920, and is still continuing in its present form. In 1923 the inadequacy of the previous system, although similar to the present one, was so marked that
a completely new multiple number system was introduced and current files were absorbed. Non-current files were destroyed under the authority of Special Army Boards comprising of Army Officers in approximately
1928. This series since its introduction in 1923 has been screened by two Army Boards; the first in approximately 1932 and the second in 1946; a third was carried out by civilian staff in 1959 (10 months
continuous screening). The result is a series generally relating to matters from 1939-1952 with very few files between 1923 and 1939, and only a handful prior to 1923. One in particular is the visit of
HRH Prince of Wales in June, 1920.
Subsequent to transfer: This accession was stored within the Repository when the Archives Division commenced operation in Sydney in 1950, and was never formally accessioned. Following culling by Dept of Army
staff the residue of the records was accessioned and approximately 2,300 rft of the original holdings were destroyed.
All items from this series have been added to the Archives' item level database.
