Description of series:
General correspondence files of Buildings Branch concerning 1. Acquisition of Sites. 2. Erection of Buildings. 3. Alteration and Additions to Buildings. 4. Ancillary Services. This includes Post Offices, Telephone Exchanges, Staff Residences, Line Depots, Motor Vehicle Repair Shops, Stores and Transport Depots, Broadcasting Stations, Filter Huts, including occupation of premises, use of premises by local Authorities, leases of premises and property to private firms and individuals.

History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
Prior to transfer: These records were created originally by the Superintendent of Postal Services - Inspection Branch and were transferred to Buildings Branch in January 1947. Belated series up to 1944 series transferred to Repository in 1950 - see SP19. The prefix I.B. indicating "Inspection Branch" continued to be used until December 1947.
