Series note
This series contains scripts of radio broadcasts recorded in the field by various ABC war correspondents. The series also holds scripts of regular wartime programs broadcast on the ABC, including 'Anzacs Calling Home', 'Australian Forces in Britain', 'Australia Carries On' and 'Children Calling Home'. Correspondence concerning wartime broadcasting is also scattered through the series. Subjects covered by this correspondence include Field Unit equipment and war emergency plans.

However, the scripts compiled by the ABC's war correspondents comprise the bulk of this collection. These scripts document the progress of the war in all operational areas. The activities of the Australian army, navy and airforce are reported on, and the involvement of particular individuals commemorated. Many Australian servicemen and women are interviewed and this provides an insight into the experiences and opinions of a variety of Australians involved in the war effort.

The ABC war correspondents whose work is represented in detail in this collection are: William Courtenay, Talbot Duckmanton, John Elliott, Peter Hemery, John Hinde, Richard Hughes, Dudley Leggett, Haydon Lennard, William Marien, Arthur Mathers, Bruce Miller, Raymond Paull, Fred Simpson, John Thompson and Gordon Williams. The collections of scripts held for each of these correspondents represent the battles, events and people in the area the correspondent was covering which, generally for the above correspondents, was the Pacific area.
