Description of series:
Specifications of work undertaken mainly on behalf of PMG and Defence Departments. There is a small group from other departments 1931-1950.  
History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
Prior to transfer: Originated in New South Wales Public Works Department and was transferred to the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs when it was established. Series has remained since then in the custody of whichever department was concerned with Commonwealth Works. Sometime prior to 1951 they were transferred to No. 1 Store, Blackmore Park, Leichhardt, which was then acting as a departmental repository. On 18 June 1951, the Store was cleared and all records were transferred to Archives Division at Bunnerong. Were recorded originally as SP31, records of Allied Works Council but were
transferred to temporary register as ST40 on 16 July 1951. On close examination of ST40 in March 1949, it was decided to transfer this series to permanent.
