These files contain documents relating to films produced by this agency from 1946 to 1967. Although they are called Film Production files, other aspects of the films are covered such as distribution and special screenings. No general statement can be made about the contents as they vary from file to file.
Probably because of the variation in the contents a new system came into operation in 1960. Under this system a different file was created for different aspects of the same production. Thus for a technical film on a pick-up Baler there are two files, FP 1314 and FP 1314 (S). The latter file contains copies of the draft script, a master script and a scene by scene commentary. The file covered by FP 1318 has a file numbered FP 1318 (F) which denotes that it contains accounting documents relating to the production.
In 1962 there is a further division when the two letters (D) and (P) are added to the end of the FP numbers. They are first used with FP 1440-Festival in Adelaide. The file numbered FP 1440 (D) contains the dope sheets while file numbers ending with a (P) contain correspondence, documents which do not fit the other categories and sometimes copies of the material to be found on other files such as the script and the commentary.
This series also contains three separate files which although they fit chronologically with the rest of the files have not been given FP numbers. They have been included in this series because they relate to jobs undertaken by the agency but not utilising its full production facilities. The first file is titled N/N - Tjurunga. It contains a copy of the commentary on the film 'Tjurunga' and a minute re the rights to 'Tjurunga' and to (Walkabout).
Two folios have been transferred to File FP 26/020 (P) - 'Tjurunga' - remake. File G213BBC. Television contains material relating to the work the agency did for BBC on two stories, namely 'Brunette Douns' and the last Australian voyage of the 'Ormondes'. The file titled N/N - Canadian Prime Minister's visit detailed the extra coverage of this visit which the agency made on behalf of the National Film Board of Canada. Administrative information
