These files deal with claims, surveys, sales, leases,
inquiries, tenancies and disposals. The
records were created in Canberra but deal with NSW properties only. When the property function was decentralized
from Canberra, these records were sent to the Sydney office.
The records are divided into two groups. The first part (boxes 1 –15) relate to
tenancies for the lands at the Port Stephens Naval Base. The records are arranged in tenancy order and
the files include correspondence between the Department and the tenants, the
Acknowledgement of tenancy of site and maps indicating the land being leased.
The second group of records (boxes 16-34) document the
compulsory acquisition and payment of compensation for properties acquired for
the Rathmines Seaplane Base and the Villawood Explosives Factory number 3. Other files relate to land acquisitions for
Post office sites and RAAF sites. These
records are arranged alphabetically by suburb.
Most of the files are controlled by a single number with a
‘CL’ (Commonwealth Lands) prefix, but a number of files also have a single
number with an ‘A’ (Acquisition) prefix.
