Description of series:
8"x5" cards used to record the history of ALL full time trainees under CRTS. Al though large numbers of courses are taken through the Office of Education (prof essional trainees Uni courses etc.), and Labour & National Service (for trainin g at approved industrial establishments and/or Technical schools) a;; applicati ons for training have to be forwarded originally to the Repatriation Dept for a decision regarding eligibility. When an application is received a card CRTS 2 i s made out, to record details of training undertaken showing dates of commencem ent and/or abandonment, completion, deferrment or transfer to part time study. Where courses were undertaken under the administration of Depts other than Repa
triation, repoorts were forwarded to Repat giving the details for insertion on the CRTS 2. History cards in other departments show greater detail of subjects studied as part of a course, and the Repat card serves as a master card giving all basic information. The right hand side was for use in compiling statistics. A code system was compiled but found to be inoperative and little or no use was made of the letters. The numerals to the right of "Eligibility" indicated a deg ree of eligibility. Different coloured cards were used for males and females. F emale cards were pink and Male cards buff. This had no administrative purpose, being used solely for statistical purposes. Up to approximately mid 1952 the ma le and female cards were kept separate to facilitate reference but with the fal ling off in numbers of applicants the cards were "married".
History Prior/Subsequent to Transfer:
The cards were commenced under the administration of the dept of Postwar Recons truction and transferred in their entirety to
Repatration Dept in 1950 when PWR was abolished.
