This series consists of Journals (sometimes referred to as Station Log Books) of the Lightstation at Cape Wickham.
The Lightstation was established on the northern end of King Island at the western approach to Bass Strait in 1861
because of the frequent shipwrecks in this vicinity. The Journals are a daily log of weather conditions and the
duties performed by the Lightkeepers. The older Journals also contain details of ships passing, visitors etc.
The earlier Journals were originally numbered sequentially. This practice, however, was not continued and they are
ordered by date. The early Cape Wickham Journals are bound in fawn coloured cloth. The title 'Cape Wickham Light
House Journal', the Journal number and the date range are painted on the front cover.
