Series note
This series contains climatic reports and notes on events such as snowline and snowfalls at Hobart, wind analysis, Tasmanian
thunderstorms, climate surveys of various regional areas of Tasmania. It includes data compilations from observation records of various meteorological aspects including sightings of comets,
aurora's and astronomical phenomenon covering the period from 1804 to 1980. It also contains scientific notes and reports including Transit factors, Time ball signals and circuit diagrams, tables for
calculation of vapour pressure, correcting barometers to sea level (all from the 19th century). There is also data collected
and analysed by the Bureau concerning outbreaks of potato blight in northern Tasmania during the period of 1904 to 1964 and
an air pollution study undertaken at Wesley Vale during the early 1970's. Other items in the series detail the history of meteorological observations in the state including reports and memoranda dating
from 1849. A large portion of these records were transferred from the basement storeroom of the agency during the first half of 1994 prior
to the agency relocating its operations.
