Function and purpose

This series comprises correspondence files created by the Christmas Island Philatelic Bureau dealing with the production and issue of postage stamps for Christmas Island. Files were created in this series from about 1972 to 1982 after which time the Bureau was incorporated as part of the Christmas Island Administration and subsequent files created as part of the Administration’s correspondence file series N7. The Philatelic Bureau still operated out of the Christmas Island Post office. After 1992, production of Christmas Island stamps became the responsibility of Australia Post.
